The Times is looking for fellows who have strong writing and reporting fundamentals, and who are eager to learn and work with others. The program is an opportunity to stretch your journalistic skills alongside the world’s best editors and reporters. You would be assigned to a news or features department, and directly report to editors on your desk. Many of your stories may take the form of traditional reported articles. But you could also write live updates and explainers, as well as pieces that put visuals first. You should be eager to participate in these different kinds of storytelling and to engage with readers in a variety of ways. The most competitive candidates will be those who submit a variety of published clips that show excellence — in breaking news, high-impact news stories, features and/or thoughtful, reported analytical pieces. These are in-office positions and include regular attendance in the office four days each week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance. You may be required to work some nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
