SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER III
JOB SUMMARY:
Leads the design and implementation of complex, high-impact software systems and architectural components with full autonomy. Owns entire systems and cross-cutting technical concerns, ensuring cohesion, reliability, and scalability across the application portfolio. Defines, drives, and enforces engineering best practices, coding standards, and design patterns across the development team. Partners with the Principal Software Engineer on technical direction, standards, and strategic planning for the development organization. Provides technical mentorship, guidance, and skill-building opportunities for engineers at all levels, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. May directly manage one or more junior engineers, including workload assignment, performance feedback, coaching, and professional development. Reviews existing applications and associated infrastructure, leading cross-team efforts to refactor for security, scalability, performance, and consistency. Serves as the steward of AI-assisted development tools and emerging technologies, providing the team with recommendations on best practices and newest technologies for efficient development. Serves as the escalation point for the most challenging technical problems, driving resolution in a timely manner. Collaborates with leadership, stakeholders, the Software Tester/Analyst team, and other functional areas to align technical solutions with evolving business direction. Contributes to software development planning, timeframe estimation, and resource allocation at the team and cross-team level.
